Frequently Asked Questions

Ruby’s K9 Corral – Dog Boarding in Blanchard, OK

What Makes Ruby’s K9 Corral Different from Other Dog Boarding Facilities?

Ruby’s K9 Corral is a small, owner-operated dog boarding facility focused on personalized care. Unlike large, high-volume kennels, we limit the number of dogs we accept so each one receives individual attention in a calm, supervised environment.

Is Ruby’s K9 Corral Cage-Free?

No — and that’s intentional.
We do not offer traditional cage-free boarding because constant group housing can be overwhelming, unsafe, and stressful for many dogs.

Instead, dogs have:

  • Their own comfortable space

  • Structured, supervised interaction

  • Rest time between activity periods

This approach helps reduce anxiety, overstimulation, and injuries.

How Many Dogs Do You Board at One Time?

We intentionally board a limited number of dogs so we can maintain a calm environment and provide hands-on care. This is especially beneficial for:

  • Small dogs

  • Senior dogs

  • First-time boarders

  • Dogs who don’t thrive in loud or crowded settings

What Is a Typical Day Like for a Boarding Dog?

Each day includes:

  • Individual potty breaks

  • Supervised play or interaction based on temperament

  • Rest periods in a quiet space

  • Feeding according to your dog’s routine

  • Plenty of human attention throughout the day

We do not believe in nonstop group play, which can be stressful or harmful for many dogs.

Do You Accept First-Time Boarders?

Yes — and we specialize in them.

We understand that boarding can be stressful for both dogs and owners. First-time boarders receive:

  • Extra supervision

  • A slower, gentler routine

  • Careful monitoring of stress levels and appetite

Many dogs who struggle in large facilities do very well here.

How Do You Handle Nervous or Anxious Dogs?

We take a calm, patient approach and never force interaction.

For nervous dogs, we:

  • Keep routines predictable

  • Provide extra reassurance and human interaction

  • Allow dogs to settle at their own pace

  • Adjust activity levels based on comfort

Our smaller environment helps dogs relax more quickly.

Do Dogs Have Group Play?

Group interaction is selective and supervised, based on:

  • Size

  • Temperament

  • Energy level

  • Comfort with other dogs

Dogs who prefer individual attention are never forced into group settings.

Can I Bring My Dog’s Own Food and Belongings?

Yes. We encourage owners to bring:

  • Your dog’s regular food

  • Medications (if applicable)

  • A familiar blanket or item from home

Keeping routines consistent helps reduce stress during boarding.

Do You Accept Small Dogs and Senior Dogs?

Absolutely. Our facility is especially well-suited for:

  • Small breed dogs

  • Senior dogs

  • Dogs with lower energy levels

  • Dogs who prefer quiet environments

We tailor care based on your dog’s individual needs.

Are Dogs Supervised at All Times?

Yes. Dogs are never left unsupervised during activity or interaction. Safety is a top priority, and our smaller scale allows us to monitor dogs closely throughout the day.

What Vaccinations Are Required?

For the safety of all dogs, we require up-to-date vaccinations. Vaccinations help protect all dogs in our care by reducing the risk of preventable illnesses. At Ruby’s K9 Corral, we take health and safety seriously and follow common veterinary recommended vaccination standards for boarding environments. As the owner, I also bring a healthcare background to our facility, which means we pay close attention to cleanliness, early signs of illness, and overall wellbeing while dogs are in our care. While we are not a medical facility, we work closely with owners and local veterinarians if concerns arise.

We require rabies, bordetella (kennel cough) and DHPP prior to boarding. At this time, Ruby’s K9 Corral does not require the canine influenza vaccine, as we have not experienced an outbreak at our facility. However, we do recommend the vaccine for owners who prefer an added layer of protection, particularly for dogs who may be more sensitive or for owners seeking extra peace of mind. We do offer bordetella at our facility as well.

How do you keep dogs comfortable during extreme heat and cold?

We take climate control seriously. Our facility features a full split-system heating and air conditioning unit designed to handle both extreme Oklahoma heat and cold winter temperatures. The indoor portion of each run is fully heated and air-conditioned, with additional backup window units in place for added reliability. Our indoor outdoor run design combines covered outdoor space as well as access to the indoor area so dogs stay comfortable year round. This den style setup allows dogs to choose when to rest inside or enjoy fresh air outside—all with a fully protected, monitored environment. Are Dogs Supervised at All Times?

Why is Ruby’s K9 Corral located away from busy roads and highways while still remaining easily accessible from Blanchard/Newcastle/Tuttle and the surrounding areas?

We intentionally chose a quieter location away from heavy traffic to provide a calmer, safer environment for dogs. Less traffic means less noise and stress, and it also adds peace of mind knowing that in the rare event a dog were to get loose, they are not immediately exposed to a busy roadway. This is just one of many ways we prioritize safety and thoughtful care.
