Keeping Ruby & Wyatt Entertained on the Road: Tips, Tricks, and Fun Moments

Hello, fellow travelers!

As many of you know, road trips are a delightful adventure, but keeping an energetic and curious dog like Ruby and Wyatt entertained during long car rides can be a challenge. Today, I want to share some tips, tricks, and amusing moments we've had while keeping Ruby & Wyatt happy and engaged on the road.

1. Interactive Toys and Treats

Keeping Ruby and Wyatt’s minds stimulated is key to curbing their boundless energy. I always pack a variety of interactive toys that can keep them occupied for hours. Puzzle toys filled with their favorite treats are a lifesaver—Ruby and Wyatt love the challenge, and it keeps them busy while we're on the move.

2. Frequent Play Stops

One thing I've learned is that Ruby and Wyatt need their playtime. We make sure to stop at rest areas or parks where they can run around and burn off some energy. These breaks are great for their well-being and give me a chance to stretch my legs too!

3. Car Games and Sniffing Adventures

We play simple car games like "find the treat," where I hide small treats around the car for Ruby and Wyatt to sniff out. It's amazing how their nose can turn a simple search into an exciting adventure. It's also a great way to utilize their natural instincts and keep them engaged.

4. Window Watching and New Scents

One of Ruby and Wyatt’s favorite activities is window watching. They love taking in the changing scenery and sniffing the new scents that waft in through the window. It’s fascinating to see their noses twitch with excitement at every new scent.

5. Playlist for Pups

Believe it or not, I discovered that Ruby and Wyatt enjoy certain types of music. We have a special road trip playlist with calm and soothing tunes that seem to relax them. It’s the perfect background music for our journey.

6. Snuggle and Cuddle Time

Ruby is a snuggler, Wyatt the stretcher, so there's nothing like a mid-journey cuddle session. During breaks or at the end of the day, we take some time to snuggle and relax together. It’s a great way to bond and recharge for the next leg of our trip.

Fun Moments from the Road

- Ruby vs. the Windshield Wipers: One rainy day, Ruby decided the windshield wipers were her nemesis. It took a bit of convincing to assure her they weren't a threat!

- Picnic Hijinks: During one picnic stop, Ruby cleverly managed to sneak a bite of my sandwich when I was distracted. Her innocent "what, me?" expression was priceless!

- Doggy Navigator: Wyatt often perches on the passenger seat, looking like he's navigating our route. Let's just say his sense of direction is as playful as he is!

Traveling with Ruby and Wyatt is always an adventure filled with laughter, love, and a few challenges. But the joy they bring to every moment makes it all worthwhile. I hope these tips and anecdotes inspire you to make the most of your journeys with your furry companions.

Happy travels, and stay tuned for more updates from the road!

Vicky Simpson

My husband and I moved here from the Texas Hill Country back in 2015 and have been here on our property ever since! I was nursing up until that point and finally was able to achieve my dream of opening a luxury dog care facility back in 2017. I still love it after all these years as it has brought some truly awesome dogs and wonderful people across our paths. I am truly blessed to have earned the trust of our wonderful community with the care of their beloved dogs!
